This paper deals with the two lines opening the brief section devoted to Terpander in the sphragisof Timotheus’ Persae (PMG 791 225f.), proposing to emend the text to Τέρπανδρος δ᾿ ἐπὶ τῷδεκά<ρ>τ᾿ / ηὖξε μοῦσαν ἐν ᾠδαῖς. This textual reconstruction seems consistent with Timotheus’description of Terpander not only as a model of the kitharoedic tradition, but also and mostlyas one of the pioneers of the ποικιλία, πολυχορδία and καινοτομία promoted by Timotheushimself and the so-called New Music.
