In Conf. IX 6,14, reformare nostra deformia corresponds to the Augustinian technical usage of formo/reformo/deformis much better than formare n. d. which one finds in almost all current editions. In Conf. X 36,58 se vindicare means ‘to set oneself free’ (scil. from sins and temptations): Seneca’s exhortation to Lucilius in Epist. 1,1 is so evoked by Augustine to hint at the pride of pagan, and particularly Platonic, philosophers.
