Reggio between Pirro, Rome and Cartagho.

While preparing for Pyrrhus’ arrival in Sicily, Reghium, which was already being controlled by Romans thanks to an accord with the city’s rulers, was embroiled in a particularly complex episode. It is quite obscure to this day, due to the questionable sources, primarily represented by Diodorus, Valerius Maximus, Cassius Dio e Justin. The episode involved all the powers operating in the Mediterranean area and triggered a chain of events that, from a political and diplomatic point of view, would have a great impact on the alliances network, including Romans, Pyrrhus, and Magnograecians, as well as Carthaginians and Mamertines.

Keywords: Reghium, Mamertines, Decius Vibellius, Pyrrhus, Romans.
