Nel cratere dell’antico vulcano Sabatino è tutt’oggi presente una sostenuta attività endogena che alimenta la caldara di Manziana e una serie di sorgenti termali, tra cui le famose «Aquae Apollinares, veteres et novae», due località distinte, con fortune diverse, identificate nelle attuali stazioni di Stigliano e Vicarello. Le fonti descrittive e cartografiche del passato possono essere indagate per cercare di definire meglio le singole sorgenti e le differenti realtà termali localizzate nei pressi del lago di Bracciano, la loro conoscenza e lo sfruttamento nei secoli. Il ricco spessore storico dei siti, se bene gestito, potrebbe garantire nuove stagioni di fortuna agli impianti termali, coniugando la protezione e valorizzazione delle vestigia più antiche con l’offerta di servizi di wellness all’avanguardia.

The «Aquae Apollinares»: An Ancient Thermal Heritage to be Rediscovered and Enhanced
The crater of the ancient volcano Sabatino still presents sustained endogenous activity that feeds the caldara of Manziana and a series of thermal springs. Among these springs are the famous «Aquae Apollinares», old and more recent. These are two distinct localities, with different histories, identified in the current spas of Stigliano and Vicarello. The textual and cartographic sources of the past can be investigated to better define the individual springs and the different spa facilities located near Lake Bracciano, knowledge of them and their exploitation over the centuries. The rich historical depth of the sites, if well managed, could guarantee new seasons of wealth at the spa, combining the protection and enhancement of the oldest vestiges with the offer of cutting-edge wellness services.
