A. Schott is generally credited with the identification of the generic τις in Marcell. fr. 23Vinzent (ap. Euseb. C. Marc. I 3) with Aristophanes of Byzantium; indeed, he thought of thehomonymous comic poet. In the same passage, the modern scholar corrected the ms. readingμέτρων into ἐμμέτρων, an intervention not acknowledged as his in modern editions.
