The aim of this paper is to present an edition and commentary of Giovanni Pascoli’s Latin translation of Goethe’s Kennst du das Land, wo die Zitronen blühn, a Lied which had a remarkable afterlife in music of the nineteenth century. The translation, which Pascoli made for himself as part of his teaching materials, demonstrates Pascoli’s interest in Goethe, documented in particular by his youthful Ciclo lirico.
